Meh. Eliminating Politics from military procurement is like wishing rain wasn't wet. The article says Defence Policy should drive procurement. Duh. But the policy hasn't really changed for decades. NATO, NORAD, and some UN on the side. We do Capability-Based Planning anyway. The problem is that it takes decades to buy anything, and the procurement process is politicized and actually gets in the way of efficiency. Every government kicks the can down the road. Do you know the length of time between the last Canadian Spitfire and the F-18? About 37 years. (1945 to 1982). Do you know how long we've had the F-18? About 38 years. Just to put things into perspective.
Correct. As long as we're a representative democracy where the military is commanded by elected government, there's going to be pork-barreling.
What's more dangerous is the general partisan politicization. Like a ruling party trying to purge the military of supporters of other parties, while trying to brainwash the remainder into serving the party's political ideals rather than Canada's. That's some Waffen SS / Republican Guard type shit and it's extremely dangerous to a free society. And Trudeau is actively engaged in trying to convert the Canadian military into the Liberal party military.
