Do you think that is a nice piece of architecture? That it represents the people of Nova Scotia? A people are judged by the art they create. Architecture is an expression of art and the world we live in and strive to live in. This is supposed to represent the Celtic origins of the people of Nova Scotia? A home for the art of the people of Nova Scotia? A square block with a bunch of concrete strips up and down the walls? It is ugly. It is brutal. And it could be found anywhere in the world today and tells you nothing about the art or people except they tolerate such a design. Brutalism is a style of architecture that was popularized by communists. "Commie blocks" are references to the dull, cold and sullen lumps of concrete they plop down en masse for housing and are functional and little else. It's not edgy to refer to them for what they are and call out how hideous an art museum representing the province and its heritage ended up being. What an absolute eye sore it is. Nor the millions the province poured into it with tax payer money. Halifax has a long history and the waterfront is filled with historic buildings hundred+ years old that show off the people that built the city and lived there. Those are testaments to the people and their art and architecture. This thing is not.
