The disinfectant thing wasn't real. In the early stage of the pandemic Trump liked to use press conference time to discuss experimental treatments being developed. One of them was a treatment using UV light under the skin. He asked the person from the company of it would be possible to "administer this disinfectant to the lungs". Notably a different company was actually researching this exact thing. It really wasn't a dumb question. It was just clumsily worded.

It's fair to criticize Trump for wanting to discuss experimental treatments given there's a good chance that none of them will make it to market but the whole, "Drumpf told people to snort bleach" was an pure media lie.
