I think the cars of the Soviet Union disprove that they hate material things once they actually obtain power. Especially cars which are both a symbol of prestige and a symbol of industrial power.
You could actually tell one's relations with the regime based on whether you could even get a car and the majority of their finest manufacturer's cars were reserved for party officials.
Marxists only claim to hate material things, the reality is that they're obsessed with them and they want to reallocated them to people who hold political power rather than those who can afford them due to merit.
