No injuries were reported

I only see peaceful protests going on here.

This is what happens when you fuck around with peoples livelihoods.

This is the result of having two sets of rules for people based solely on race.

asking for equal treatment without racial consideration is now racist.

I feel for the fisherman, but if they are responsible for this, they've caused a lot more problems for everyone than they had before. This will trigger an insufferable avalanche of racial backlash. There are clearly bad actors pulling the strings on both sides to further an end that doesn't involve lobster.

This will trigger an insufferable avalanche of racial backlash.

That was already in play and already the the future objective to carry on.

In the current system we exist under it is inevitable to end in conflict when one side is heavily favored under racial equity.

In aboriginal history skirmishes between tribes would have dictated coming to the table with an equitable resolution for both sides.

Conflict creates resolution when it's treated equally.

I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more of this. Prices were garbage this season and in PEI anyway we were only allowed to catch 400lbs a day to try and stop the market from being flooded and crashing the price even more. So when the natives, treaty or no are still allowed to fish in the off season not only potentially causing a lot of damage to the lobsters population, but it also fuck with the stability of the price. I'd say this is a direct result of the economy going tits up and now it's starting to boil over as everyone is trying to snatch up crumbs.

I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more of this.

So do I.

I know other fishermen and Nova Scotians in general will be watching this situation intently. I am hoping this will lead to lines drawn in the sand and a rise in support from the silent majority.

Looks like the lobster war is really heating up.

This must be somehow related to the lobster tariffs Trump got Europe to drop from Maine lobster.

Canadian lobster fishermen have competition now.

My current understanding:

The natives have a treaty right to fish for "a modest living" without clear understanding how much that is.

Other fishermen are pissed because the natives are fishing undersized/spawning lobsters en masse that can't even be sold, ruining the stock for everyone.

masterbaker 2 points ago +2 / -0

Aren't the natives also selling illegally to chinese fishing companies during the off season and when caught, were like 'oops, dont know how that load wound up in their shipping yards'

1
adragons 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't know. I read that too, but I also read because of their treaty rights it's not illegal for them (again: not sure).

are the non-natives guilty here of any violence? is there any actual wrongdoing on their part?

1
adragons 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes. Burning down the pound/van is illegal. As far as confiscating the lobsters goes I think it may be vigilantism.

IANAL but reading https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-93-332/page-1.html a bit makes me think it IS indeed illegal for natives to fish/sell the undersized/spawning lobsters or out of season fishing.
