The metric that matters how well the vaccine is preventing infected people from dying is the number of covid deaths per day

It's not and you know that. You can see how effective or ineffective the vaccine is if you compare the outcomes. How many people die while they are fully vaccinated vs. not vaccinated and compare that to the overall vaccination rate. Alberta for example publishes that data.
