Reason: ass

example one. you have an infinite supply of unskilled workers, what would be your incentive to give people raises to compensate for the current state of the economy, or to retain useful employees, or to compete with other companies for the current labor force. i.e. you ain't ever finding a low skilled job for more than minimum wage.

but unfortunately it doesn't just stop at your high school tier job.

when a company cries woe as me, we can't find any workers, they then apply for h1b visa employees and pay them barely anything. the companies demand the impossible for such low wages no self respecting person will apply for them, then in comes some immigrant to do work for those low, low wages they crave. It also makes it harder to find a job because companies want trained professionals, but don't want to provide training. You need to have a long list of certifications that you must provide yourself, or get looked over. Instead of being forced to train people, because no one is certified in all the wonky things they need, they just get some dude from out of country that has a fabricated resume, but that's fine, cause he will do the job for 20$ a hour.

Example. how much is a person worth holding both a journeyman electrician and millwright ticket? Each one is approx 5 years to earn. if you guessed 30$ an hour you might be getting h1b scammed by a company.
