The test positivity rate in Ontario to be fair is higher than it was in months. In the past 7 days the test positivity rate is 1.55%. Back on Aug 8-14 it used to be only 0.31%. On June 5-11, the test positivity rate was also 1.55%. So we are back to where we were in the late Stage 1 days. So it's not just the increase in testing that is explaining the high case numbers. Because we locked down earlier, no shit opening indoor bars, restaurants, gyms, cinemas and relaxing indoor gathering limits was going to spread the virus. There is plenty of firewood for Corona-chan to feast on here, unlike Sweden. But at the same time, are we to close indoor dining, gyms, cinemas and keep indoor gathering limits low until there's a vaccine? When will that vaccine come?
At what point does the benefit of preventing a very small portion of the population from dying or ending up in ICU outweigh the massive financial and social costs of a lockdown?
The epidemiologists say tRuSt tHe sCiEnCe but this isn't a science issue, this is a moral issue. Our society has to be decide what to prioritize: sacrificing the young or the old. The old enjoyed their youth. This should be an easy decision to make. But boomers and Silent Gen have now become the new protected class among leftists. Along side BIPOC, LGBT, women, Muslims.
You can't have your cake and eat it too. Something has to give unfortunately. It's a tragedy when people die. Massive unemployment, businesses going bankrupt, social isolation, mental health problems, opioid overdoses, domestic violence, etc. are also tragedies. For whatever reason our politicians have decided that saving the boomers and Silent Gen is the top priority. Even though the survival rate even for elderly people is higher than the media lets on.
