You're missing the point, and your comparison is terrible. Toronto's transit has always been half-assed and awful, no thanks to Municipal bureaucrats.
The streetcar system could have been 'outstanding', after all we're talking about a centuries worth of improvements being lost. But what I'm saying is, is that Western society has been shaped by this cartel and their desire to maintain their monopoly and control over the world. Look at cities like Amsterdam in Europe, beautiful architecture, full of things to see and do, and above all- designed for humans, not for cars.
Now look at the GTA. It's a hellhole. Neverending gridlocks and traffic, unsanitary roads and sidewalks, accidents every 15 minutes, and vast distances that can 'only' be traversed by car and car alone.
