Boomers were the first generation who grew up in the post-war, post-scarcity society. The best educated, most opulent, most prosperous generation in history. They were educated being told that the world was their oyster, that there was nothing humanity couldn't achieve, and therefore nothing they weren't entitled to.

That really is what lies at the heart of this. The belief that human beings and human societies can control everything. That's why so many of them believe in man-made climate change, and why they believe that they must deprive future generations of the very prosperity that they enjoyed in order to combat it.

And it's why, as they age and are faced with the reality of their own mortality, they cling with ever more desperation to their demands that the government DO SOMETHING about it, in keeping with the attitude that has defined not just their generation, but every generation that has come after.

They are the only ones whose lives are endangered by COVID, but, true to the narcissism and sense of entitlement that has come to define the society they have inherited and gradually destroyed, they will demand that everyone belonging to a younger cohort be denied the right to live a normal life if it gives them just a few more years, or makes them feel safer.

Well, you can condemn your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to live under a perpetual regime of pseudoscientific, technologically-enforced medical tyranny, but you're still going to die.

Whether it's COVID or cancer or getting hit by a truck, you're still going to die, and so am I, and the government can't save you from it, no matter how many of your children's rights you demand they take away.
