None of the people who came across the border from the US are refugees. If they were, they would have asylum in the US and thus would have no reason to jump the border into Canada.
Yeah, the biggest policy failure is the loophole in the safe third country agreement that says you're not allowed to claim asylum at the Canada/US border (since if you have a valid asylum claim, you can claim it in the country you're already in and thus have no reason to cross the border). The problem with that treaty is that language didn't account for people who jump the border illegally.
So all you gotta do is jump the border somewhere away from an official border crossing, and once you've got both feet firmly planted in Canada, you're not claiming asylum "at the border" anymore, you're claiming it in Canada which is allowed.
Thankfully the CPC have pledged to close that loophole if they get elected. All it does is incentivize illegal Can/US border crossings by people who are illegally in North America to begin with.
Traditionally, that's been very true. It used to be a very cheap, very scummy town with cheap places to live, cheap beer and the third dirtiest strip club I've ever seen.
Thanks to the Toronto housing prices boom though, prices are rising so one would have to wonder how many of them are ending up on the streets there, these days.
I honestly have no idea, all I remember is that the strippers were appalling and the beer tasted of dirty lines.
Not that I don't respect that kind of thing.
There used to be cheap rooming houses there, and easy-to-obtain low-wage jobs.
Those have all gone to the TFW program these days.
The weird thing is that the convicts who went to Barrie, actually wanted to straighten up and got a minimum wage job and a 90 grand house, and who actually held onto it will be millionaires within the next 10 years.
Ah, the benefits of rampant immigration.
Have the homeless flood government buildings this winter, refuse to leave. Seriously, what can the government do, toss the homeless into the cold? That won't go over big with their base.
You misspelled "illegal immigrants".

Simple solution. If you are homeless, claim you fled from America and claim your benefits.
No money to increase the ODSP either, as housing prices skyrocket.
High housing prices and very high rent are hurting our vulnerable.
No shit. That direction comes straight from the top.
Mexico does the same thing. It's cheaper to give them drugs and have them die young than attempt to get them off drugs.
