As a former NDP voter, it saddens me how far the party has fallen off. Prioritizing woke politics over labour politics.
And even when they do labour stuff, it's counter-productive the way they do it. Like when the Foodora workers unionized. And then Foodora promptly left Canada because they can't compete with Uber and Skip with the extra labour costs.
I feel for couriers who make peanuts. I really do. But the bottom line is that the consumer is not willing to pay much for food delivery. And Uber/Skip/Foodora want their cut. So you can't get a whole lot out of that kind of job. There are tons of virtue signalling urban liberals who tip their couriers peanuts or don't tip at all bro.
I see the housing bubble as a much bigger issue for labour than wages. A lot of businesses (especially small businesses) wouldn't be able to survive with greater labour regulations, higher minimum wages and unionization. Canada's wealthy is balls-deep into Canadian real estate and foreign investment. Canadian entrepreneurship is actually doing rather poorly. The TSX has only went up 13.96% in 12.5 years. That's a APY of 1.05%
I support unionization on principle but a lot of union reps are low IQ. And union reps for the public sector give absolutely no fuck about the taxpayer.
Lol, please tell me that's not a serious thing..the NDP is such a farce.
