The tolerances on these cranes is probably shit as are the welds, the steel being used is most likely sub standard, and I wouldn't be shocked to see them breaking within a year.
So remind me again, when did this country lose the ability to build cranes?
I'm so sick of seeing heavy industry sent to countries like Germany, Denmark, China, etc, for things that could be made here.
"The only reason we had to cancel the project is because the previous government politicized the process. Now we have to do it all over again while ensuring that we don't wind up making the same conclusion or else it would be embarrassing at the next election."
The only way we'd get shipbuilding and other heavy industries back up and running is if a) justine was bribed, or b) the west separates.
The steel mill makes too much carbon pollution. The noise from the ship yard keeps the urban yuppies awake at night. The sea bed around the launch would need to be dredged, disturbing the habitat of the endangered fishes. The paint fumes are toxic. The list of bullshit goes on and on. We have regulated industry to death, and overseas industry doesn’t give a shit. They’ll dump toxic waste in the river and burn all the coal they want to make shit for us.
THAT CRANE IS NIFTY, BUT I NEED MY 50%
