It's long passed time for school choice in Ontario. The teachers are ridiculously overpaid and under no obligation to deliver results for those paychecks. The average highscool teacher in Ontario gets $103,926 in salary plus benefits. You could easily get a competent teacher for closer to $60,000. With the savings you could dramatically reduce class sizes, increase spending on other classroom needs or deliver a massive tax break to all Ontarians.
It is baffling the entitlement some teachers have sometimes, just because 90% of the rest of us couldn't ever pull this shit in our workplaces
Yes, completely agree. And this entitlement observation goes for all public sector unionized workers and bureaucrats in general. Many have never worked in the private sector or owned their own business, and therefore doesn't understand how the real world works. Their entitlement is unbelievable, and many of those calling for Covid related business shutdowns fit into this category also. These public sector folks including all these medical "experts" paid out of the taxpayer trough have nothing to lose financially from business closures, so they don't give a shit.
So you're telling me that teachers are scared of a bad cold that so far killed less than 0.0206%* of 60-somethings in Ontario. Which is less than the overall death rate in Ontario (0.0275%*) as the virus kills elderly adults 70+ far more than the general population. And the retirement age for teachers is 65.
326 deaths among 60-69 year olds in Ontario / 1,583,890* 60-69 year olds in Ontario = 0.0206%
*As per 2016 Canadian census. There are more people now
In all of Ontario, there is one case of a staff member dying with COVID-19. Who was like 67 and had multiple pre-existing conditions. She is one of only 326 60-somethings who died with COVID-19 in Ontario.
These teachers give unchallenging work (i.e. drag and drop worksheets), don't grade work (only check that it is handed in), and don't teach basic knowledge (i.e. that the Holocaust took place during WW2).
Oh, and if you're reading Shakespeare, you won't get to read the whole thing, just an except paired with your teacher's interpretation and then be expected to write an analytical essay.
University has gone fucking nuts. The caliber of the students are so low, even at good schools. I mean this is not to say that there are not countless highly intelligent people, but there are also a ton of clearly low functioning people. You also get a lot of kids that have no real idea what they want to do, and just party the entire time and do fuck all.
Teachers do not actually teach theses days. They play videos of other teachers from the past teaching the kids. This is what we pay them for. Boo hoo.
This pandemic is really highlighting the lack of education our children are receiving from so called educators.
Keep crying about how hard your babysitting job is. Summers off.

Actual based opinions for once.
