That sub perfectly encapsulates the disconnect between the average person and the average redditor. If you read a couple posts on r/Alberta, you would assume the average Albertan is an unemployed tranny communist on suicide watch
I wrote awhile ago that /r/Alberta is literally the least representative subreddit in Reddit's history; and that I felt sorry for anyone outside of Alberta coming to /r/Alberta for what they think is going to be unbiased information about the province.
It's really quite incredible how out of touch that sub is.
Yeah it’s become a meme at this point. I really hope people don’t read that and assume Alberta is full of leftist losers. r/Calgary is similar, but to a lesser extent. I feel bad when I read a post like,“Hey I’m coming from Australia to work at blah blah company, any tips?” and the top comment is always, “Alberta is run by literal nazis that rounded up all the doctors and fucking shot them, they just killed them.”
Unfortunately I think that I'm somewhat personally responsible for radicalizing /r/Alberta in the way that it is now.
The only subs I used to post to with any frequency were /r/Calgary, /r/Metacanada, and /r/Alberta. When I was posting on /r/Alberta years ago there were like 1000 subs and maybe a handful of new threads a day. If someone wanted to really argue with me they'd generally go to /r/Alberta because it was so fucking sleepy and they knew I was likely to reply to an /r/Alberta thread instead of the 50 messages I was getting per day in /r/Calgary.
Unfortunately it drew a lot of liberal idiots into /r/Alberta and they quickly took it over. I'm not saying I'm 100% personally responsible for what happened as the sub grew quickly with idiot liberals when the NDP won the provincial election, but I recognize that I helped ruin /r/Alberta to some degree which kind of sucks to admit.
I still come up with a good rant every once in awhile. Actually I just got called out a few months ago by Crackmacs, LOL. He sent me a message saying he knew exactly who I was because of my 'writing style.' Not gonna lie, he nailed it. I thought it was pretty funny. He's a lib but at least he's a good lib.
