Well, remember back to early 2020 with all the rail and road blockages by the first nations supporters? It’s one thing to protest, it’s another to prevent others from going about their lives. One’s right to take up a cause doesn’t include preventing others from exercising their rights. This law would apply to serious annoyance. Not any simple annoyance. If its application is clear, covers only serious annoyances, and is applied to all protesters (not only certain causes), then fine. Protest all you want, but don't prevent others from doing what they want to do. Your right to protest should not prevent others from exercising their rights. Your rights are not more important than others’ rights.
Let me add to this: as I alluded to above, the issue is not this type of law. The issue is how it is applied. Would anyone be surprised that BLM, Antifa, LGBT or FN protestors are never going to be prosecuted under these laws, no matter how ‘annoying’ their protests become? Would anyone be surprised if ‘alt-right’ protestors are almost always targeted by these laws? This is the real problem. The law on its own is not overly problematic.
You are absolutely correct. Such a law is most likely unnecessary. I was going to make that point but was too sleepy. Perhaps Boris is just signalling the tyranny will accelerate. Look to canada to follow.
