I’ve tried explaining this to family in the medical profession. They cannot understand the concept of providing a recommendation without a double blind trial.
The cost benefit analysis of recommending the vitamin D RDA is ignored. Worst case, nothing happens. Best case, outcomes are significantly better.
No double blind? Can’t make recommendations. Observational studies are insufficient. People will take too much and get kidney stones, etc.
It’s infuriating.
At least the UK does some of these studies. Same with starting challenge trials and testing dexamethasone. Everybody else is pure big pharma.

No double-blind randomly-controlled trials have been done on masks "reducing the spread."
Might be interesting to ask them about that. :)
