Interestingly, Max's fundamental character flaw (the thing that's responsible for his failure as a politician) is on full display in the first few seconds of the video. He says...
It's not the Jason Kenney that was conservative when I was a conservative.
That's the problem right there, letting a label determine your actions instead of your actions determining your label.
Not that I'm defending Kenney. But his actions are wrong because they're hurting people and destroying our way of life, not because they're inconsistent with someone's definition of "conservative".
If your position is:
I'm a conservative therefore I must do/say/believe X
...then you're doing it wrong. It should be:
I do/say/believe X, therefore I'm a conservative.
If you're chasing the image of what you've heard a conservative should do/say/believe then that's not a rational, reasoned position. That's ideological zombieism.
You should critically think out your positions independently and rationally, and then wherever your opinion falls, that'll determine if people call you a liberal or a conservative. You don't chase that title. You don't take positions just because you think it's what your 'brand' expects of you. That's ideological zombieism. You're not doing it because you think it's the right thing, you're only doing it because it's what you think is expected of you. You can't be the leader of jack shit with this mindset because it's a follower/zombie mindset.
This is what cost Bernier the 2017 leadership race. He took a losing position on an issue nobody cared about (except for the agriculture industry, who had just enough votes to narrowly cost Bernier the election) out of some misguided sense of loyalty to his "Free market libertarian" ideology.
"But I have to stand for muh principles no matter what!"
Yeah? How are Berniers "Free market libertarian principles" doing now that they don't even have a voice in parliament anymore, thanks to Bernier's ideological zombieism?
This is all so demoralizing. I guess we know for certain Trudeau will be pushing UBI and the great reset.
With O’Toole, it seems he’s aiming for a milder version of that, no UBI, hopefully less equity initiatives. Hopefully defunding the CBC and protecting free speech.

Be careful not to confuse what he says he's going to do and what he'll really do. Like all politicians, he'll say whatever he has to to get elected. And then once he takes office, his real agenda will manifest. What I mean is, a lot of these policy concessions he's offering to appease liberal voters could very well be all bullshit. If elected, he could just not get around to delivering on any of them. Politicians do that all the time.
It's all well and good for your party leader to make all the noises you want to hear while he's campaigning, but what good does any of that do if saying it out loud costs you the election?
It's strategy vs principle. Your principles don't count for much if you get blown the fuck out on election election day and then end up with zero say over how we're governed.
I don’t know a single conservative in real life who is happy with O’Toole. It feels like he’s trying to lose the election, his carbon pricing after the climate change threat vote comes across as him trying to lose

They're not the ones trying to get elected under a conservative banner in an overwhelmingly liberal country.
People need to understand the difference between the governance they want, and what is plausibly electable in Canada. Would they prefer O'Toole swing out to the right and end up polling in the low single digits? Where's that going to get them?
not once do i see your breakdown of anything with otoole and his bs.
That's because I don't have O'Toole figured out yet. I genuinely don't know if he's a Chinese asset, a paid Liberal plant, or just really really bad at politics.

Can you explain how The Toole fits into this?
He does/says/believes liberal things, but calls himself a conservative.
Good analysis

I comment on his moves all the time though.

I criticize O'Toole more on an average day than you've ever criticized Bernier in your entire life.
