I've long suspected that it'll never actually be lifted. Slowly people will just stop complying and the government won't doing anything to stop it. In 100 years it will be viewed as one of these weird archaic laws that are still technically on the books like how in Toronto it's illegal to drag a dead horse down Yonge St on a Sunday.
