They were "western chauvinists" i.e. people who merely liked their civilization and thought it was worth defending. Which is about as wholesome as you can get. They were just patriots in the simplest sense of the word.
The problem is, like all conservatives groups, they were infiltrated by 1488er shitheads who can't create their own popular movements and instead have to infect, colonize and hijack existing conservative groups.
Then when they ultimately kill the host (which always happens, see the Proud Boys) they move on to another conservative group and take over like a disease. They prey on the conservative's ideological tolerance and commitment to freedom of conscience and freedom of expression in order to get their foot in the door. And once they establish a beachhead, they all come flooding in and then that conservative group's days are numbered.
This is actually why we can't keep and maintain popular movements - be they online communities, street protest movements, what have you. They always get appropriated by tiki torch waving 1488ers because they know and exploit our main weakness which is our tolerance and commitment to free speech.
We're in the late stages of this here on OmegaCanada. If there's a cure, we haven't found it yet.
I agree tolerance is a weakness. Free speech is not.
Tolerance has destroyed the churches too.
I personally am strongly in support of protecting the lives of the unborn. I would go so far as to provide women with money and support instead of abortion - yes it would incentivize breeding like rabits but I'd rather support that than bring in immigrants.
People have many different ideas what it means to be conservative. And compared with where the overton window is now, I'd probably be burned at the stake for my beliefs, which is just insane. Not that my beliefs are insane, the left is insane and believes that evil is good and good is evil.
(O'tool is neither fiscally, socially, religiously, nor consitutionally conservative - might as well change the party name to just "Progressive")
