You know, I might be a little more open to this if I thought giving FN's more land might help their situations, but is anyone really under the delusion that the problems plaguing first nations communities a function of them not having enough land? I mean, are they using the land they currently have prosperously? Or is government handouts still their biggest revenue stream on these reserves? If so, how is adding more land supposed to help? If anything, would that land not be better off in the hands of an entity that will use it successfully to generate taxes which can then be sent to the reserves?

Yeah. That whole "better stewards of the land", noble savage trope is such BS.
Until they find that they don't want to deal with maintaining large blocks of land, at which point they sell to china.
