Things seem to be taking a turn for the worse in Canada.
Papers Please coming soon to eat out or shop
Mobility rights being restricted for unvaxxed (no flying even domestically, no inter provincial train travel)
Forced vaccination for health workers in Ontario and federal employees across Canada or your fired.
I lived temporarily in Red Deer and while it was cold as hell it was still free-er. Thinking about moving the family to Calgary. I live in downtown Toronto currently.
Added benefit that private Christian education is partially government funded. Costs 11k /yr in Toronto, can get similar for $3500 /yr in Alberta. With the push of gender crap on kids is the public system, private education has become a top priority for my kid.
Oh and real estate is still cheap in Alberta. Can still buy property even if only making 40 - 50k a year.
Alberta isn't the conservative land of freedom some claim it to be. The Kenney government is despised by everyone and the socialist NDP will likely take the next election in a landslide.
The cities are all run by leftists, Alberta Health Services and Education are a massive drain on the devastated Alberta tax base. I expect life in Alberta to become quite miserable.
Alberta NDP are conservative by Ontario standards in particular around oil pipeline issues. I still remember the federal NDP screwing over Notley on that.
Trust me when I say Alberta is better than Ontario. It may not reach full red state status of based but it’s the best Canada’s got.
NDP are going to win again? What about wildrose or the separatist party? I haven’t kept up with AB politics since I left. I thought the NDP was a one time thing to punish the cons who had been in power for 30 odd years.
I’m aware though the political civil service is FAR to the left compared to both regular Albertans and the politicians in power. Many of the positions are paid far in excess compared to other provinces with the reasoning being to compete with oil money.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that you are right about cheaper education and housing, but the extra freedom is only temporary. If you can live in a smaller city rather than Edmonton/Calgary you would be better off, ofc depends on your line of work.
If the NDP get in again, be prepared to go full retard. Notley and her army of SJWs have plans to remake the entire province in their image.
Back when I was in Alberta there was a big break between provincial and federal NDP over pipelines. Notley and crew while left are still nowhere near as raving left as the lefties in Ottawa.
With that said NDP is a lose for Alberta, I really hope the right view isn’t split again.
