I used to be a cop in Toronto. I quit 11 years ago. A high percentage of cops are tough-guy types of cops that enjoy laying a beating on people and they're idiots. But most cops are also conservative, politically. The people that I worked with wouldn't be talking like this about the truck convoy protesters. I don't get this.
I think RCMP are a different type than municipal cops. I've heard their training is much easier, they're recruited differently, they have different experiences, they seldom have local ties since they're posted all around the country, and I get a distinct federal public service vibe from them. And that makes sense as they answer to the federal government. That alone makes them more susceptible to politics than any local or even provincial police service. Liberal governments get to superimpose their progressive agenda on the RCMP's recruiting policies, training and methods.
