Maxime has all the right policy positions to MCGA but he lacks the personal charisma and star power that top level politicians capitalize on, like a Trump, Boris Johnson, Putin and I'll throw in Chretien here because even though he had a horrible accent, his personality overcame it.
Max could overcome this if he worked his ass off but he's a bit lazy. People elect leaders not policy positions. If Max wants it, he needs to work his ass of by getting in front of the people. He needs to continually traverse the country, getting in front of the people and earning it. Day after day, week after week, flight after flight he needs to get out there and make himself known to the people, earn their respect as a hard worker and earn the position. If he doesn't do this, he hasn't a hope. He'll always just be seen as just another politician.
He should try to charge a huge base out West. He should work tirelessly to break into Alberta and Saskatchewan's blue-collar workers (which is a lot of fucking people). I feel Alberta definitely influences the west the most - A lot of Albertans travel to/from British Columbia. Vancouver being a "Liberal stronghold" would be tough, but turn the rest of the province purple.... probably still not enough though.

He needs to win Quebec first. Without that he has no legitimacy in the west.
