We trusted our politicians to care for the programs their predecessors built. We trusted that those programs would last and help us as they helped our parents and grandparents. The bastards stretched the programs, expanded the coverage without expanding the funding, told us everything was fine. Some tried to fix it, just to have it undone by the next government. The problem has festered and is now at risk of collapse. We trusted them and they kicked the can down the road and lied to our face.
