Might is right has always been the system. What we had though was a country of patriots who all willingly gave up their individual right to violence to the state. The state thus had the might is right power that no one could oppose which leads to peace. Now though, our country is divided and thus the voluntary submission of one's individual ability to commit violence to the state is called into question. Many people don't believe in what the state's doing thus people aren't okay with the state having a monopoly on violence anymore.
