Can someone please show me an accurate portion of where technology is saving us money?
We live in one of the most sparsely populated countries on the planet, yet have crazy expensive housing.
I need an advanced degree to afford what my parents had with a degree, and what my grandparents did with a 10th grade education. Note, both me and my wife work, while my grandma stayed home.
Average car was 40k in Canada in March of this year.
Phones cost $1k.
My internet price without cable is $65 a month, and that's because I get a 'deal' for 2 years.
My net tax rate (income, property, sales, carbon, sin, gas, capital gains) is near 50%.
Now because I have a work phone, work laptop, etc, I'm essentially on call 24/7. I do not feel like I really ever get to leave work. I get compensated to a point where I'll put up with it, but it fucking sucks.
I don't know if continued modernization is something that's a benefit to society. I'm really jealous of people who lived through the 50's, 60's and 70's.
We've added trillions to the economy since our grandparents time. Is anyone any better off for it?
