The way I see it we have 2 options:
Inclusiveness above all. Allow the students to be lazy. Take no initiative to teach any dialect system. If the student is incomprehensible outside of their own dialect, allow them to simply remain ignorant of other dialects, including Standard American English.
Produce educated people that can communicate their thoughts and ideas clearly to over a billion English speakers in the world with Standard American English. Students reserve local dialects for local conversation.
