I remember being in college and asking for an extention on my exam, explaining that I was having a hard time as my parents had died, I was in a new town and having financial issues (and substance issues) and the Jewish female prof told me to suck it up.
"There's a girl here in this school from the ME who lost her whole entire FAMILY!"
I never set foot in the door to write that test. Psych 101.
I can confirm that as a child I was considered a financial asset for sure.
I was moved from place to place because it made them more money.
Once you age out it's a whole different story.
I remember one group home woman using the Christmas presents she bought (on a budget) as an emotional abuse weapon: "Why aren't you doing what I say, I bought you Christmas presents!"
They're fucked.
Spez: I remember one authority figure telling me "well, it's a sad thing but as you get older people just stop caring" and it sounds harsh, but it was true: look at the adoption numbers. I had to cultivate my own caring relationships and was lucky to know that at an early age! Best honest adult truth explanation that I ever got, observations and experience have confirmed this 100%.
Real life is not near anywhere as pretty as a lot of these fucks think it is.
