We can't just keep printing money, bankrupting businesses and leaving people and especially small children socially isolated and developmentally stunted. We need to rip the band-aid off like Sweden did. If you want to wear a mask, wear a mask. If you want to stay home, stay home. If you want to order delivery and wear a hazmut suit, do it.

Sweden did only enough to prevent overwhelming the hospital system too much and they absolutely crushed the curve while remaining relatively free.

Sweden's strategy may have seemed cruel. However there are also lots of non-COVID deaths that happened due to the lockdown and lots of social ills that came about from the lockdown. Our society decided to sacrifice the young for the elderly and sick. It's a lose-lose situation either way. It's a tragedy that all those people died of COVID just like it's a tragedy all those people during the lockdown committed suicide, ODd on opiates, had mental health issues due to social isolation, children growing up retarded without social stimulation and in-class instruction, etc. All those missed cancer diagnoses during lockdown will lead to thousands of deaths. All those missed "elective" surgeries and people avoiding the hospital/doctor lead to deaths.

Doug Ford is in a bad position here. He is actually doing very well in the polls now and is projected to win a majority because the swing voters were happy with his lockdown and social distancing stuff. And if he decided to go with the Sweden model, he will end up alienating all those swing voters who are for lockdowns, social distancing, etc and risk losing power in 2022. It's very politically unpopular to just be like "yeah people are going to die. If you're worried, stay home. What you have a multi-generational household? ¯_(ツ)_/¯." This is a shitty situation no matter what. It's a hard sell to convince people that it's better to just rip the band-aid off because people don't think rationally when they are confronted with their mortality or the mortality of their loved ones. It is what it is.
