The woke crowd are going to be in for a rude awakening when Joe Biden wins and they realize that nothing much is going to fundamentally change for the better in their lives. Bill Clinton and Barack Obama had 8 years each and poverty and homelessness has only gotten worse in liberal cities like Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. People have been voting Democrat in these cities for decades and the homelessness problem gets worse. You know how much rent is for a studio apartment in Seattle?
Democrats keep making the excuse that the Republican house/senate have obstructed Bill Clinton and Barack Obama every step of the way. Meanwhile Liberals have had free reign to do whatever the fuck they want in Canada and we have the same problems in liberal cities in Canada.
The truth is, a first-past-the-post electoral system tends to favor a two-party system (the NDP only ever do well when the Liberals are weak). So the swing voter pretty much holds all the cards politically. Typically suburban swing voters. Suburban swing voters have even more power in Canada because we don't have an Electoral College or elected Senate. We vote just for ridings.
Biden is going to do what the swing voters want. He's going to arrogantly tell black people "if you can't figure out whether you're for me or Trump, you ain't black." He's going to arrogantly tell poor whites, "if you can't figure out whether you're for me or Trump, you have white privilege." Bases typically get neglected in politics because they have nowhere else to go.
I have sympathy for the Tyrones of the world from a small-l libertarian perspective. But they also need to stop blaming everything on white racism. Lots of poor whites struggle too in the rat race. There are systemic problems for the chronically unemployed and even the working poor in the United States and Canada. But it's not always a race thing. And the race-baiting Democrats keep telling poor blacks that they are poor because evil huwhite supremacist employers discriminate against their race.
Imagine being Tyrone. 18 years old. Mama wants you out of the house because her benefits get cut off when you're an adult. You go pounding the pavement. But you're low-IQ, you're a low productivity labourer (and I'm not saying all black people are low-IQ and low productivity but a significant percentage of them are. Let's be honest with ourselves). You go to the local bodega and ask them if they are hiring. Do you think the local bodega is going to offer the job to low-IQ Tyrone with no job experience at minimum wage (which is higher in Democrat cities and states), a higher-IQ more productive kid with no job experience, an experienced very productive worker who might even cost a little more money but their productivity more than makes up for it or a hard-working undocumented Mexican worker who might not have the best productivity but he gives it 110% and works under the table for cash for less? Juan will bunk and live 10 people to a room if he has to to send money back to Mexico. Tyrone is not gonna be the winning applicant. It's very tough for Tyrone. But we can't talk frankly about race in this country and so the problems never get solved. The Democrats cater to the suburban swing voter who is profiting off the housing ponzi scheme. And poor blacks continue voting Democrats like the dogs they are.
And even if Tyrone managed to even get a job, how he supposed to afford rent when it's so expensive in the urban areas when there is a housing shortage causing a housing and rent bubble and people in the suburbs and small towns and rural areas don't want Tyrone moving in? If a nigga even has enough cash for a Greyhound in the first place. lmao. The housing shortage is caused by over-regulation of the housing market. Housing zoning regulations. Rent control. And NIMBYs fighting tooth and nail against the construction of affordable housing in their neighbourhood.
Means-tested welfare also traps people in poverty because if you rise up too much, you get the benefits pulled right from under you. I know people on disability who explicitly said they turn down hours or turn down work that isn't guaranteed because they don't want to risk losing their safety net if they fall. I know a guy on SSI who took a job at Wal-Mart. Got fired after one day. And had to wait forever to get back on SSI again. And he was living in his car in the mean time. So now he turns down job offers if he doesn't feel the job is secure because he doesn't want to lose SSI.
If we increased the housing supply and had affordable housing options for the poor, deregulated enterprise and lowered minimum wage so that Tyrone would be more employable and scrapped means-tested welfare (which traps people in poverty) with a modest basic income on the same budget, he'd have a safety net without discouraging him from working. I know we disagree on basic income. But means-tested welfare literally discourages you from getting a job because it cuts your benefits steeply if you rise up too much. While a negative income tax gives welfare recipients the incentive to get a job because it doesn't tax their labour so heavily like means-tested welfare does.
