It takes hundreds of tons of ore to mine for just a single battery for E car. To mine the ore takes a lot of diesel fuel and lots of suffering in usually 3rd world countries. Life of such battery is short and needs to be replaced after few years. E car to self-haul half ton of battery takes a lot of energy that comes from utility power grid which is stretched to its limit already. In cold climate battery loses its capacity significantly and cabin heater just burdens the battery further.
After a decade car goes to scrap and requires special recycling because lots of non ferrous metals. If it catches on fire it is treated as hazardous substance.
Solution? Old small diesel car such as Benz or VW rabbit without built in obsolence with few improvements giving 4liters per 100km or better, while lasting for some 1Mkm.
I never understood electric cars. People always pretend they're zero emission but where do they think electricity comes from?
