Wrong wrong wrong. Google's browser project, whether it's open source or not, controls the internet. It doesn't matter if it's "Chrome" or just "Google's version of Chrome"* - Google develops its browser to support Google pages and technology. Google develops its pages and technology to support its browser.
Because of this, all browsers are forced to ape Google. They get lost in a never-ending maelstrom of trying to copy Chrome after the fact, or they won't be able to see the most important websites on the internet. At the same time, website owners must copy Google's web-design - because if they don't, their pages will "look wrong", in the most important browser in the world.
The only way to defeat that, is to force Google to not simultaneously own both the entire internet and a browser.
It would be like if Ford had owned the roads when the Model T came out. We'd all still be driving Model Ts, because Ford would never have allowed anything else.
*Currently, Chrome is not open source, as well. Just FYI.
Google forces end users to use GMail in order to be identified. Google forces everyone's browsers to download unsafe, uninspectable, unauditable, DRM. Google forces engineers to support terrible, anti-user, anti-developer, anti-competitor technologies, because Google's sites require them.
Google keeps extending its tie-ins, into every corner of the earth it can reach. Compromising us all. Slay the beast!
That is far from the only issue. Google champions tracking, unmasking VPNs, shipping data to China, intrusive DRM, forcing security compromises on us all, and forcing all developers to buy into Google's ecosystem or fail.
Google is NOT a normal company. It's one of the most abusive, domineering, security and privacy destroying companies to ever exist. Make no mistake - Google is the enemy.
No, you probably can't. The cold hard truth, is that the law and our very constitution, allow companies to be politically opinionated.
The problem is that Google is a monopoly. And that's the problem we actually can solve. If Google was not Lord of All Creation, His Holiness, King of Data, Identity, and Technology, it wouldn't matter if it was a liberal shithole.
America was not predicated on forcing people to be good. It was predicated on distributing power, so that everyone could be good, free from coercion.
We cannot make Google good. We can put an end to its coercion. We can strip away its monopolies, its monoposonies on videos, etc.
Chrome is open source though. Anyone can build a competing browser.

Seriously. Modern leftist think the East India Company was evil, yet grovel at the feet of big tech.
Hilarious that they had to get rid of their old slogan "dont be evil" because they KNOW they are evil.
