Metacanada opted to leave instead of being arbitrarily banned, which is exactly what they would have done. It sends a more impactful message when you voluntarily leave.
Yeah. That, and freezing the sub before the admins banned it allows us to keep the sub visible so that visitors can see the redirect to the .win.
If we'd just kept going until the admins banned us then metacanada would have just suddenly turned into this one day, in which case the subscribers wouldn't have any directions on where to go.
We did it the way we did it in order to keep the redirects visible, rather than have the sub replaced with the "this community has been banned" page.
Feel free to open up your own subreddit. I'll be sure to post condescending comments from my rent-controlled apartment. I'll also post nothing but Beaverton articles, because I have no personality.
Because the longer reddit went, the more it sucked.
It was like facebook in that way. It made the news, everyone's wine aunt, all of the grandmas, and every hippo and incel took to the site and fouled the entire thing up.
Even more like facebook, the shilling became intense and off-putting.
There are thousands of agencies right now, dominating reddit with call centre workers (earning sub-call centre tier wages) with the reliable method of "repost popular shit to popular subs until you've got enough karma to be reputable, then shill for a political party or a brand."
Popular reddit threads make the news these days. Think about that. On the news, they will go through a thread on reddit and talk about their favourite comments.
The same thing goes for mainstream blogs. Or mainstream youtube channels.
That leads a ton of people to migrate to reddit who wouldn't have otherwise, and it's led to a situation where the mainstream reddit subs have become the most cancerous part of the internet.
I'd say that reddit truly died the moment that the failure that was reddit gold was changed to paid reddit emojis.
People actually pay for fucking emojis to give to people whose comment they particularly like on reddit these days.
I'm amazed that Mark Zuckerberg never thought of that one.
Metacanada was closed voluntarily and for good reason. Fuck reddit.
Because even though we were spared during the main banwave at the end of June it was only a matter of time before they came for us too. The moderators made a smart decision by not giving reddit a reason to shut us down and stopping all new posts. So now we can continue triggering the libtards on a different platform and people could still type in "canada" on the reddit search engine and we will still come up. So in a way still having the subreddit up is advertising.
So your definition of "bravery" is continuing to jump through hoops for silicon valley SJW admins, knowing that no matter how hard you try it's only a matter of time before they shut you down? That's what you consider "brave"?
They could have left it open of course. Fuckin fuckers.
If we'd done that, people would have posted shit that gave the admins the excuse they were looking for to turn the sub into this, in which case we wouldn't be able to redirect visitors to the .win.
Agreed. Thanks for putting in the work and effort setting things up.
Thank you as always for all your work. I'm glad this move happened, it was necessary for the purpose of maintaining freedom.
Because fuck Reddit, that's why.

It's run by a leftist.
