How is it? Are there any airlines at all allowing you to fly without a mask? What about in the Executive First Class style pods?
Assuming Trump wins, I want to make plans to get the fuck out of the country for the winter. I am thinking Florida and then on to one of the multiple areas in the Caribbean that are opening up is the best bet, but I would love to hear ideas about potential sane destinations and ways to get there. It is so hard to wade through the propaganda to see what is actually happening in individual countries.
I flew SIngapore-Montreal thru Doha on Qatar Airways in June. Toronto-Detroit on Delta in August. Chicago-Montreal on United in early September. Last week I flew Montreal-Toronto-São Paulo (where I am now) on Air Canada.
The Qatar and Air Canada flights were in business class. The Delta and United flights were in economy.
On Qatar business the pod is enclosed. They refer to it as the suite. No mask is required while in the suite with the door closed. Masks are required when walking about. The crew were excellent and kept the toilets clean in between visits by passengers. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Air Canada requires masks be worn at all times except when eating. In fact, my mask slipped under my nose while I was sleeping on the YYX-GRU leg and the flight attendant woke me to tell me to fix my mask. Ugh.
Delta and United both have mask requirements. I complied and had no one next to me on either flight. I got around it a bit by nibbling on snacks most of the short flights.
I guess I am a contrarian. I like traveling, especially these days. The planes haven’t been crowded. Airports are empty, there are no lines. It’s really stress free.
(Much of my travel has been family related, but I enjoy it and still find time to enjoy and relax).
If you can get by the scary stories I highly recommend Brazil. Summer is coming. The Real has dropped and it’s cheap. (The people and food are great.) There are no longer any entrance restrictions. I’ll go back to Montreal next week and probably return in December for Christmas and head to the beach. São Paulo currently feels better than Quebec in terms of how they are dealing with Covid.
Do note that upon return to Canada there is a two week quarantine requirement.
Thank you. Exactly the type of info I hoped for.
The Qatar QSuite looks like a good option. I just checked fares and the are extremely reasonable on the order of 5k CAD$ return.
The flight attendant waking you up to fix your mask is exactly the type of bullshit I want to avoid.
Brazil would be excellent. YVR to GRU fares in business at about 2k CAD right now.
I have been an avid world traveller for many years now. 100,000k miles or so per year, mostly for work, but I am now semi-retired. This bullshit is driving me nuts. I may have to suck it up, be a man, and put on a face diaper, but I am really trying really hard not to.
Sounds like we are in similar situations. Problem with QR Is all their flights go thru Doha, which is rather out of the way. The AC option to GRU sounds great for the price. But tbh AC is one of my least liked airlines. But at least it’s an option. Good luck.
