Middle-income in the GTA is $60,000, if you're not earning around that range then it will be more difficult to live here. In the past, a good manufacturing job, or a good clerical job, afforded you that income. They don't exist now.

It's a combination of mass immigration, the more people there are in an area, the higher the demand, stagnant incomes that cannot keep up with the inflation of the price of goods and services, and the decline of manufacturing jobs, and clerical jobs. When people are employed primarily in the service sector, they're either high-earning professionals, or low-earning service workers. There's no in-between.

Nothing will change because most Canadians are sheep. Suffice to say, most immigrants, and people of colour, don't remember what it was like in the past. You used to be able to earn a good $5,000 to $6,000 per month working in the manufacturing sector.

Long-term, I don't see anything for young people in Toronto, or even Ontario. There's an exodus of young Canadians going to the USA for job opportunities. The USA has problems, but at least if you can get a decent job in the American heartland you can always live in a safe suburb with a nice house that is about the price of an apartment in Toronto.
