Unless The Tories address the housing affordability issue and the loss of Canadian jobs, good luck ever beating the Liberals in a political election. At this point Liberal rule may be perpetual.

You can kick and scream about not wanting to help the poors but you're losing at the polls. You don't really have a choice. The only time the Tories ever win is when moderate liberals and independents get sick of Liberal mismanagement. And with the middle-class+ shrinking and the poor growing in population, we may very well have already reached the point of no return where the Tories can't just be carried by middle-class+ home owners. Urban poverty in urban metros like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver is very significant and these areas have a ton of seats.

I won't vote Liberal/NDP as their mismanagement makes the problems even worse. But I refuse to vote Tory until they make it easier for me to get on the housing ladder and bring back the jobs they shipped out overseas. My suburban riding is going to keep voting Liberal and the west is going to keep kicking and screaming until the Tories address the issues.

I'm not saying you gotta give the poors UBIs. But the government could create affordable housing in the urban metros close to where the working poor work and build rehab centres for the drug addicts and institutions for the severely mentally ill like we did in the past. And the government should relax residential zoning and housing regulations so that the private sector can increase the housing supply as well. And mass immigration needs to be curbed substantially. But we need more housing anyways just to house the people already here.

If you want to live in a society with gross income inequality where you can get culturally enriched by Tyrones and Muhammads in the parking lot at any moment and then be arrested for self-defense (this happened in Toronto recently), be my guest. That is the trajectory that Liberal-Tory neo-liberalism is on. It's very important to address the conditions that lead to poverty. We are better off as a society to set aside some taxes for increasing the housing supply so that Tyrone actually has something to lose and therefore feels deterred from committing crime. Than living in a society where the Tyrones and Muhammads of our society have nothing to lose and would rather culturally enrich you than commit suicide or overdose on heroin because why the fuck not? If your life is so shit and you can't dig yourself out of the hole, what do you have to lose by culturally enriching people like you with a lead pipe in a parking lot and taking their wallet?

This is why I consider myself more left-libertarian than right-libertarian. Pure leftists don't understand economics. You need to temper the welfare state with pragmatism. The left spends like drunken sailors and don't solve problems efficiently or they often make the problems worse with their policies. But right-libertarians don't understand game theory. If I have nothing, I literally lose nothing jacking you at the ATM or in the parking lot. People who are homeless or live with 7 Pajeets don't give a fuck if they go to prison. Their life is already a prison. There comes a point of diminishing return where increasing punishment doesn't deter crime. Homicide is actually one of the strongest correlations with income inequality for this reason. Society has to address inequality.
