The likelihood of a parent sending damaging and confusing messages to their gay child by assuming they’re straight and openly speaking about them that way is quite low. It’s low because the likelihood of any given child actually being gay is quite low. And so, the likelihood of the child suffering any kind of psychological trauma associated with trying to conform themselves to their parent’s false assumptions about their sexuality is also quite low.

The extremely low chance of harm means attacking a parent for making the assumption that their child will be straight is absurd.

Conversely, the likelihood of a parent sending damaging and confusing messages to their straight child by assuming they’re gay and openly speaking about them that way is very high. And It’s high precisely because the likelihood of any given child actually being straight is also very high.

Parents should be aware of that reality. The very reality that sexual norms are based on. A progressive virtue signal to make a political point will almost certainly end up causing the child harm based on that reality, and so finding fault in their ridiculous child rearing choices is perfectly appropriate.

The two situations aren’t even remotely comparable.
