Eunuchs are another one, castrated males, it was fairly common for Chinese nobles to maintain eunuchs, castration was considered one of the paths to power, and sleeping with eunuchs were not uncommon.

The Chinese civilization was already quite different to the West, even before Mao. The same for South Asian civilizations. This hasn't changed that much because both China and India, are not very Westernised. I've always pondered whether or not Canada will become a non-Western country in the near future.
