It's got everything to do with government system, language, and religion.
Canada was borne out of the War of 1812 American Revolution, those English settlers who rejected the hierarchy of monarchy sought to create a republic, we the people, the United States, they are revolutionaries. Those English settlers who wished to maintain the hierarchy of monarchy sought to create a kingdom, pietas (loyalism), Canada, they are counterrevolutionary. Why would you choose a monarchy over a republic? A monarchy is a more traditional system of government in which government, language, and religion are intertwined, this becomes relevant to my second point. Quebec is French-speaking, and Catholic, the Quebecois preferred a government that would allow them to preserve their language, and religion. The monarchy provided these assurances. Canada as we know today is English-French, Protestant-Catholic, and monarchic, maintaining this identity is why Canada exists.

It's got everything to do with government system, language, and religion. I'll keep it short.

Quebec is French-speaking, and Catholic, the Quebecois preferred a government that would allow them to preserve their language, and religion. The monarchy provided these assurances, whereas the American republic is indifferent. French became a protected language, and Catholic schools became publicly funded. Louisiana was the same as Quebec, but the Americans abolished French in the 19th century, and Catholicism was confined to New Orleans.
To put it simply, monarchy, French, and the Protestant-Catholic dynamic is the reason why Canada exists. They do a piss poor job at explaining this to students.
