I have come to a similar conclusion since Covid started. In a democracy degeneration is inevitable. It is human nature for those that are narcissists or psychopaths to seek power.

I don’t know what the answer is. In Paul’s letter to Romans in the Bible he tells the Jews who have accepted their Messiah (Jesus) to obey the authority of Rome and that their rulers were put there by God.

I suspect for us Europeans the Rome nation state model is as good as it got for us and we should return to that style government. Authoritarian and openly states it’s interests (protects border, industry, law and order) and is proud of them.

I am only brainstorming at this point and pondering but I do think democracy is a source of constant psychological torment for people who have a lot of integrity and morals.
