The pneumonia is causing the death, but covid is causing the pneumonia. This isn't a conspiracy. It's more or less common sense. It's the same way a flu kills people. It's not wrong to attribute a covid-induced pneumonia death to covid. Any more than it's wrong to attribute ebola deaths to the ebola virus even though it's technically not the virus that's killing people, it's the hemorrhaging the virus causes that kills them. It's semantics.
The real problem is deaths with a different underlying cause being falsely attributed to covid.
This is not one of those cases.
