The context is, Kellie Leitch (another contender in the 2017 CPC leadership race) wanted values tests for immigrants in order to screen out radical muslims. So Max mocked her for that position by calling her a "Karaoke version of Trump".

I’m not sure why you think it’s an issue that he collects a 104k salary?

Because he's already collecting a full MP's pension from parliament. Party leaders only take a paycheck from the party if they don't have an income from parliament. Max is double-dipping. That $104k SHOULD be going toward paying the party's debts and getting its administration in order. Instead it's going straight into Max's pocket while the party lapses on all its internal affairs. You don't even have a party constitution FFS. What does all that tell you about how seriously Max takes this little "PPC" project? Face it. It's a scam.

So right there you've got Max exposing himself as a fraud on policy AND getting rich doing it. EVERY sane person on earth can see that for what it is. So what's your excuse?
