If this policy was implemented, Canadians would have to pay tax when they sell their home. Currently, you are only taxed on the sale of homes if you have more than one residence.

Further attempting to justify the tax, the spokesperson said that not taxing homeowners "is a catch-22: the more we made home ownership profitable, the more we made housing unaffordable."

Meanwhile, there's no word on how this new tax would help renters... ??
