That doesn't make any sense though, not even from a basic virology standpoint. If it was true, then there wouldn't have been large outbreaks of polio in major cities since the claim is that it was transfered through direct contact with DDT. The major cities in question(like NY, Philly, Chicago) didn't use it for insect control. While cities like Jacksonville, Tampa, Huston did, but had no polio outbreaks only localized instances. Those three southern cities used DDT extensively to control mosquito populations, which carried a variety of diseases but mostly because of malaria.

Bonus points if you have figured out why by now. If you didn't, it's becaues NY, Philly, Chicago, Jacksonville, Tampa and Huston dumped human waste(the primary vector), directly into outflowing water. But NY, Philly and Chicago drew water from the same contaminated source, while Jacksonville, Tampa and Huston didn't.
