If our government is trying to build a Communist Utopia, they are accomplishing the opposite of what they set out. Communists believe in state ownership of capital (USSR/Cuba) or worker ownership (communes) of capital. The wealthy investor class can make money off passive income from Canada's housing bubble and their investment portfolio while the workers breaks their back or languishes in unemployment thanks to our government's over-reaction to the virus. The wealthy are also the ones most likely to be able to work from home and order delivery everything. They aren't as impacted by the lockdown and social distancing as the proles.

It was our provincial and municipal governments that implemented the stay at home orders and social distancing. The federal jurisdiction only really covers the 14 day quarantine law and the borders. Doug Ford and Francois Legault head conservative parties. They are not Marxists. The problem with our federal government is that they enabled these stay at home orders and lockdowns by firing up the money printer. And Dr. Theresa Tam has no real power but she influences NPC voters negatively with her paranoid delusions and she is out to lunch.

The government decided to shut down due to public pressure. And then the government felt compelled to double down and triple down because they don't want to admit that they over-reacted. Whenever politicians admit to making mistakes, the opposition opportunistically pounces on that and it hurts them in the polls. Imagine the field day the Conservative Party would have if Justin Trudeau admitted that we should have had more lax measures. It would also hurt Doug Ford and Francis Legault politically if they admitted to over-reacting as this is perceived as a sign of weakness. When really admitting to mistakes is very mature and takes a lot of courage. When the dust settles and society looks back at this shit, we're going to see that we inflated the hell out of our money supply and destroyed the economy and destroyed many lives, especially young lives, for a virus that ultimately wasn't going to kill or even hospitalize a lot of people. A big stink is made about 197,237 dead Americans. But the United States of America has 331,383,387 people. 0.0595% of America is dead. Meanwhile what? 1.25% of America dies in a year from all causes? Maybe less than that because of immigration but still.
