Given the choice "A) Hear your leader say this thing that will cost overall support" vs "B) The leader bites his tongue and retains that support", Bernier fans will choose "A)" every time because they don't understand the game they're playing. They don't get that elections are vote-winning contests, not virtue signaling contests.
