A man who stabbed a woman and her six-year-old child multiple times in a northwest Calgary park nearly four years ago has been found not criminally responsible for his acts due to a mental illness. He'd been consuming marijuana for weeks everyday, knowing it made his hallucinations worse, missed his medication shot, didn't tell anyone the hallucinations got worse. From his own mouth, I’ve heard he intended to kill the victims,” said Hall. He thought they were illuminati and would rise from the dead, only of course they didn't (emergency workers saved them). The agreed statement of facts also referred to statements made by psychiatrist Dr. Kenneth Hashman that Yag was not in a state of extreme intoxication from marijuana and his actions were voluntary. He was said to have had carried out his actions with intent but he did not understand his actions were wrong. Either this guy is responsible, one way or another, in that he knowingly took the marijuana and not his meds, or he knew what was going on. Or, he's out of his mind, won't comply with taking meds and not doing drugs and needs to be locked away forever. Non-compliance is big with Schizophrenics, who to be fair, usually aren't violent. But once someone stabs a mother and child, or decapitates someone on a Greyhound bus and proceeds to partially consume them, then they need to be locked away forever. EDIT: Guy appears to be Black. Also heartbreaking is how the mom and boy still live in fear. Don't know their race, or the race of the good samaritan who intervened, but there's actually a ton of mental illness in immigrants and non-Whites. Not that we don't have our own problems, but just another problem immigrants bring. This will cost the legal system too.
