There is no evidence that the death rate in the school was greater than the same demographic who did not attend at that time.

This is absolutely not true. You can take a look at the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission they go over the fact. Even if you look at the official death records the death rate was far above the average compared to other kids. In 1941 to 1945 the chance that a kid would die at a residential school was higher than the chance that a Canadian soldier would die in WW2. The death rate went down but even in the 60s (and we have a decent amount of documents from that area) the death rate of children at residential schools was twice as high as in the general population. You can all read it in the TRC report.

The USA had many more RS but are not plagued by this leftist angst.

They will be one day. The boomers will die soon and we will be left with the woke Millenials taking over.

Who benefits from this narrative of hate?

The conservative spectrum could benefit from this far more if they would be a little bit more intelligent. Residential schools clearly show what happens when an overreaching government takes away inalienable rights, like the authority over your children for the "greater good". I don't know why some Conservatives on the Internet are defending these schools so much. We're on a trajectory where this could happen again, but then the government will take your kids away to teach them leftists values for the "greater good".
