Spoke with a few people I know in the RD doc community - The guys name is Deng Mabiour (as noted in CBC article). He was a patient of Dr. Reynolds for several years. He wasn't cracked up when he did this, either.

So, not drug related (as so many are guessing in le Reddit subs, you know the ones), and not mental illness (both of those means the guy would very likely would have had priors, and he doesn't). What do we have left but hate crime and/or religious nutjob?

Guy was a patient. Attacked doc with a hammer, then throat cut with machete.

Fellow doc tried to stop the guy with a snow shovel. A snow shovel. FFS

I worked with the docs in that clinic several years ago doing IT stuff.
